Cory Quartet The ‘Cory Quartet’ is a traditional brass band quartet comprising of two cornets, one tenor horn and one euphonium. The group formed in 2004 and gave their inaugural performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. Their repertoire is varied and includes original works by Gilbert Vinter, Joseph Horowitz and Philip Sparke together with transcriptions by the quartet members themselves:
The quartet is more than at home delivering recitals and concerts but specialise in educational workshops and training days providing tuition and inspiration for brass players of varying standards and ages. The members of the group are professional brass teachers with experience at all levels of brass playing. Chris Turner is a peripatetic brass teacher for Rhondda-Cynon-Taff and a specialist cornet tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music; Lisa Childs is a peripatetic brass teacher for Greater Gwent and conductor of the Torfaen Junior Wind Band and Brass Ensemble; Owen Farr is a specialist tenor horn tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music as well as founder and conductor of the ‘New’ Pontypool Training Band. The members of the Cory Quartet are also proud members of the Buy As You View Band. The group take its name from the Cory Brothers who supported the Cory Band (currently the Buy As You View Band) for a number of years. |
