The celebrity band got together on May 15th to raise funds for the '91Make Poverty History'92 campaign by recording a new version of Sir Bob Geldoff'92s Live Aid classic "Do They Know It'92s Christmas (Feed The World)" in addition to other popular tracks including the famous Pearl Fisher's Duet performed by David and Glyn Williams.

Most of the money raised by the All Star CD will be spent on providing a library for the only school in Adet, an Ethiopian town with a population of 350,000. The project has been identified by World Vision. Some of the funds will also go to Band Aid, the international charity led by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure.

The idea of making a recording to support fund-raising for the Make Poverty History campaign came from Steve Robson, music director of Stanhope Silver, the Fourth-section band based in the north Pennines of Weardale. Much of the credit for recruiting a band of top British players to make the CD must go to Stanhope's Briony Thompson (15), and her father, Bob, both trombonists, and Steve's daughter, Sophie (flugel).

Recently, Richard Evans, who conducted the All Stars Band, has agreed to serve as a trustee for Brass Band Aid along with composer Alan Fernie and five leading players - Roger Webster, Ian Porthouse, David Childs, Steve Sykes and Katrina Marzella.

The disc, which boasts an incredible artist line up will be released later this week on the 2nd September.
