Euphonium virtuoso David Childs will be making a brace of high profile concert appearances in the next couple of weeks at two of the most prestigious musical venues in Great Britain and Ireland.

On May 1st he will be appearing with the RTE Concert Orchestra at Dublin’s National Concert Hall, whilst the following weekend he will perform with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Both concerts are celebrating the 70th birthday of composer Karl Jenkins, and David has been asked to perform two movements, the ‘Romanza’ and the fearsome ‘A Troika Tidy?’ from his Euphonium Concerto.

The two events round off the first part of an exceptionally busy year, following the recording of four major euphonium concertos with the National Orchestra of Wales directed by Bramwell Tovey. David has also performed at the RNCM Festival of Brass and with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, held masterclasses in the USA, tutored with the National Youth Band of Great Britain, won a Creative Arts Wales Award, secured a Welsh Area conducting win and been part of four consecutive winning performances with the Flowers Band!

David told 4br: "It’s certainly been busy but I’ve been really looking forward to these concerts for while. They're special events for Karl Jenkins in his 70th birthday year, and I'm honoured he's invited me to perform movements from his Concerto to close the first half of each show."

He added: "I've previously played with the Royal Philharmonic at the Last Night of the Welsh Proms, but never with the RTE Concert Orchestra before. It should be fun."
