At 9am on November 19^th (just 12 hours after giving the orchestral premiere of Bernard Kane’s euphonium concerto with the Cardiff Sinfonietta), David led the Flowers Band at the Sage, Gateshead, to open the Brass in Concert Festival Championship – an event that David’s late maternal grandfather, Peter Hartley, co-founded some 41 years ago.

Having played at Brass in Concert on numerous occasions in the past, when David took to the stage this year, he became the fourth Childs to conduct a band at the event, following in the footsteps of his late grandfather John, his uncle, Nicholas and father, Robert.
