Over the past few months nominations for The Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards have been taking place.

The Society'92s Music Awards are governed by the Society's guiding principles of Excellence, Creativity and Understanding, and are now regarded as the UK's most prestigious recognition of achievement in the field of classical music.

Nominations for the awards are made by RPS members and the music profession and each award is decided by an independent jury.

David Childs is delighted to have been nominated for an award in the Young Artists category, '93I feel extremely honoured to be considered for an award from this prestigious organisation. I have always taken an interest in the RPS Awards; to be nominated means a great deal to me.'94

Following David'92s nomination, a schedule of his performances in the UK in 2004, a biography and other relevant information relating to notable performances given in the UK in 2004 were submitted to the RPS prior to the meeting of their independent jury - it is their job to shortlist the nominations. On 11 April at the Wigmore Hall at 12.15pm Tony Fell, RPS Chairman, will announce the shortlisted nominations for the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards. The announcement preceeds a BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert by the Belcea Quartet, winner of last year's award for chamber ensemble.

In the last year David has received the Inaugural Abse & Cohen Award from the Welsh Music Guild, the Player of the Year 2004 Award from online brass magazine 4barsrest.com, the Soloist Award from the European Brass Band Association and the '91International Euphonium Player of Year'92 award '96 a title he previously won in the year 2000. Being nominated for the RPS awards certainly caps off a successful 12 months for David and the euphonium.
