David recently gave masterclasses at three USA Universities, adjudicated at the North American Brass Band Championships and performed as soloist in their closing ceremony. Here's his blog entry:

"Following concerts April 4th at Regent Hall London, and April 5th at Pershore Abbey, I made my way to the USA on April 6th to spend three days in Kansas City before heading to Grand Rapids to adjudicate the North American Low Brass Solo Championships, and perform solos to close the North American Brass Band Championships.

Whilst in Kansas I gave master classes at the Missouri Western State University, Missouri's Kansas City Music Conservatory, and the University of Kansas. I also spent 3 evenings with the Fountain City Brass Band and their talented conductor Joseph Parisi assisting them with their preparation for the Brass Band Championship. It was wonderful to hear so many fine musicians both from the universities and the Fountain City Brass organisation.

Upon arrival in Grand Rapids I realised I had my work cut out adjudicating more than 40 low brass soloists, but the day passed quick and was actually very enjoyable. The standard was very high with some outstanding contributions from the younger generation. Following my solo championship duties I was able to take in the Brass Band event and enjoyed hearing some breathtaking performances from America's finest bands.

It was also good to catch up with friends at both the Besson and NABBSS booths before finally playing as soloist with Fountain City Brass to close the Championships. We played three solos, but my favourite by far was Evelyn Glennie's 'A Little Prayer' which my Dad arranged for me as a 17th birthday present many years ago!"
