David Debuts in Japan
Last month saw David visit Japan for the first time as a soloist performing 6 concerts in 6 days!
A full report of David's debut performances in Japan will appear shortly. In the mean time here are some photos from the tour.


Day 1 - Solo Recital in Yokohama with pianist Sachiko Komatsu. During the second half of the concert David was joined by Sotaro Fukaishi and his Tuba Ensemble. The evening was billed as 'An Evening with The Brass' and was supported by The Brass Cruise, Japan & European Union.

Day 2 - David gives a Master Class followed by a Solo Recital in Nagoya. Both took place in Yomogi-Ya, a small concert venue on the top floor of Nagoya's premier music shop.



When there is a language barrier, demonstrating can be more effective than anything else during a Master Class.

Day 3 - David gives another Master Class followed by a Solo Recital but this time in Osaka. During the Master Class David worked with three talented students on Joseph Horovitz', John Golland' and Philip Wilby's euphonium concerti. David's Solo Recital featured the music of Peter Meechan and also included a surprise duet item with Shoko Morimoto; a Japanese student who studies with David in the UK at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Day 4 - David visited Buffet Crampon in Tokyo before giving a Master Class and Solo Recital at Yokohama University. Whilst at Buffet Crampon, Besson's sole distributor for Japan, David met with Kenji Chiwaki, Hisakata Naito, Maki Oishi and Chairman Toru Hora.

Day 5 - David arrived in Kobe for a rehearsal and Gala Concert with the Kobe Cory Band. The band was conducted by its founder, Koji Hirosawa. David's solo items included brass band favourites; Brillante, Carnival, A Little Prayer, Grandfather's Clock, Flight of the Bumble Bee and Philip Sparke's new solo, Harlequin.

Day 6 - David gave his final performances of the tour in Kyoto. Following a two hour Master Class he gave a short recital with piano before performing Pantomime with the Kyoto Youth Wind Orchestra and Napoli with the 'Giant' Kyoto Euphonium & Tuba Ensemble forming a great Gala Concert to close the tour.
