Celtic Charm - The new CD from David Childs
Hard on the heels of their award winning CD ‘This Land of Ours’ the Cory Band have been back in the studio once again, this time recording ‘Celtic Charm’ - an inspiring new album featuring their star euphonium soloist David Childs.

Just last month Cory became the first brass band in history to enter the top 10 of the classical charts with ‘This Land of Ours’ - an album conceived and produced by Britain’s most popular living classical composer Karl Jenkins. His brain child not only brought together two of Wales’ most famous traditions – the brass band and male voice choir, but also brought to the forefront a young soloist with a difference.

Born in the mining village of Grimethorpe David started playing euphonium at the age of three when the instrument was bigger than him! By sixteen he’d become the youngest principal soloist with the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick Band, the same band Terry Wogan stormed the charts with in the seventies; and by the age of eighteen he’d given his first concerto performance with a professional symphony orchestra live on television.

‘Celtic Charm’ not only showcases a remarkable talent, but it also sees father and son in partnership as conductor and soloist. David’s only teacher has been his father Robert, and here Robert conducts his son together with the Principality’s finest, the Cory brass band.

As the title suggests, this new release from David Childs and Cory features music originating from and inspired by the great Celtic nations of Wales and Ireland. Hauntingly beautiful melodies combine with virtuosic showpieces to deliver over seventy minutes of quite breathtaking brass playing.

At a time when many believe the great British tradition of brass bands is in demise, both soloist and band prove it is still alive and kicking in Wales – home to David Childs and the number one ranked band in the world.
