2009 saw David make recital debuts in Los Angeles, Hawaii, Rome and Verona. He gave concerto performances with the BBC Concert Orchestra, US Pacific Marine Band, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Sinfonia Cymru, in addition to giving numerous television and radio broadcasts at home and abroad.

David is without doubt one the brass band movement'92s leading stars, and last month performed at the prestigious BBC Festival of Brass as a recital artist, concerto artist, and principal euphonium with the Cory Band.

The festival hosted by the RNCM took place on the weekend of January 22nd'9624th and featured the Black Dyke Band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Fodens, Leyland, Brighouse & Rastrick and of course Cory Band.

David made his first appearance on Saturday morning performing a recital of unique musical variety with duo partner Harvey Davies. Featuring music by Charles Villiers Stanford, Ludovico Einaudi, Simon Parkin and Hummel, the audience were given a master class in versatility and a demonstration of what the modern day euphonium is capable of in expert hands. RNCM Head of Brass John Miller commented, '93It was a wonderful way to start the day - simply superb.'94

A 4barsrest.com review later suggested, '93David'92s performance showed just why he has made such an impact both in the field of brass bands and the wider musical world'94, whilst the British Bandsman magazine went with the headline, '93Quality the Key Note at RNCM Festival'94.

Just hours after his recital performance David once again took to the stage, this time as principal euphonium with the Cory Band, current Welsh, British Open, European and World Champions. Following a fine performance of Gareth Wood'92s '91Brass Triumphant'92 David was on his feet once again, this time closing the first half of Cory'92s concert with Karl Jenkins'92 superb '91Concerto for Euphonium'92.

Accompanied sympathetically by Cory under the direction of David'92s father Robert, David'92s performance proved to be, '93one of the weekend'92s highlights'94.

One reviewer wrote, '93In four contrasting movements the work is lighter in style than most Concertos, but the demands on the soloist are gargantuan nevertheless. David Childs however has the ability to make even the most difficult of tasks sound as if they are elementary exercises and that is precisely what he did. Playing from another world by one of this world'92s great brass performers.'94

David commented, '93I was delighted with the audience reception, and my Dad and Cory did a great job. I found the performance was physically and mentally a little more taxing than normal having given a recital a few hours earlier, and it being the first time for me to play the work by memory. However, I was really happy with the days'92 performances and it was a pleasure to be part of this prestigious Festival. The RNCM, Paul Hindmarsh & the BBC should be congratulated.'94
