Carnegie Hall New York, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, St David'92s Hall Cardiff, Queen Elizabeth Hall London, Lincoln Center New York, Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff are just some of the venues David has performed the Karl Jenkins Concerto in during the last two years.

However, two more special places have been added to the list, with a third set to be added next weekend!

Concertgebouw Amsterdam

The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is recognised as one the most prestigious concert venues in the world. It is home to the famous Royal Concertgebouw orchestra and has a rich history. In August the Holland Brass Festival featured David & the Cory band with two concerts; the first in Drachten North Holland, the second in the Concertgebouw! In a programme which featured music my Saint-Saens, Arnold and Wilby, Karl Jenkins'92 Euphonium Concerto formed the centre piece of the first half. Received with a standing ovation, the Dutch audience clearly enjoyed the Welsh composers unique work. David commented,

'93Playing in the Concertgebouw was an honour '96 it'92s quite simply one of the iconic music venues of the world. When I stood on stage I couldn'92t help but read the famous names inscribed on the balcony in gold leaf; Mahler, Bach, Wagner, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Berlioz, Dvorak and many more. I was left in no doubt this was a venue of enormous prestige. It was a privilege to perform there.'94

Teatro Manoel Malta

Just last week David gave the Jenkins Concerto another outing in a special venue, this time with a Wind Orchestra in Malta. The Teatro Manoel was built in 1731 and funded by the Grand Master of the Knights of Malta. It was constructed in just ten months and was built to keep the young knights of the Order of St. John out of mischief, and to provide the general public with "honest entertainment." This motto was inscribed above the main entrance to the theatre, which still reads today: "ad honestam populi oblectationem".

During the show in Malta

Conducted by Maestro Hermann Frantz, David and the wind orchestra gave the Maltese premiere of Karl'92s Concerto which was once again received with a standing ovation. David commented, '93It was a beautiful place to play, and both the orchestra and conductor were on fine form. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and think the audience enjoyed it too '96 they clapped between every movement and stood at the end! We didn'92t have an encore planned, but eventually gave them the finale from the last movement once again to bring the evening to a close.'94

Next weekend David will give his 34th performance of the Jenkins Concerto in London'92s Royal Albert Hall. David is no stranger to the Royal Albert Hall having played there on many occasions. In 2000 he gave a short solo recital there accompanied by the Cory Band, in 2001 he performed there as soloist with the BBC Philharmonic, and in 2004 he gave the London premiere of Alun Hoddinott'92s Concerto for Euphonium & Orchestra with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at the BBC Proms.

Royal Albert Hall London

On Saturday 15th October David will perform the Jenkins Concerto with Cory Band conducted by his father Robert during the Gala Concert of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. It was this very same concert, almost 40 years ago when the first ever euphonium concerto (composed by Joseph Horovitz) was premiered by Trevor Groom. David commented,

'93It is difficult to describe what next weekend'92s concert means to me. The Royal Albert Hall is my favourite venue in the world, it is home to the first ever euphonium concerto performance, I'92ll be performing with my band, conducted by my father, it will be a full house of brass enthusiasts, and Karl Jenkins is attending the concert! It is a dream setting for me and one I know I will relish.'94

The performance is being recorded and will no doubt be broadcast at a later date.
