This year Lloyds TSB are proud to once again be title sponsor for the Welsh Proms, and the 'In Tune with Wales' competition is designed to stretch the reach of the Proms to involve the whole of Wales. Its aim is to encourage young musicians who enjoy playing music together to aspire to high standards of excellence.
All secondary schools in Wales were invited to submit a 3 minute instrumental ensemble which were then judged by an internal panel in order to pick four finalists. The successful finalists, each covering a different genre of music are:
Ammanford - Amman Valley School Brass Band
Cardiff - St John'92s College String ensemble
Abergele - Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan Blues / jazz ensemble
Aberystwyth - Penglais School Jazz ensemble
These finalists will perform a 20 minute programme of their choice in front of the expert panel of young professional musicians on May 26 2007 at St David's Hall. The winners will receive 'a31000 prize money and an invitation to perform on the Day Stage at St David's Hall prior to the Children's Prom on July 14 2007 along with 50 complimentary tickets for the performance.
The competition will begin at 2.00pm with the prize giving due to take place at 4.00pm. Each performance will be judged on technical merit, artistic endeavour, excellence in ensemble and overall performance.
