2007 has proved a busy year for David Childs: '93This year has flown by and given me a great deal of satisfaction both musically and otherwise. Special moments for me include my solo debut in Italy, a '91Friday Night is Music Night'92 broadcast with the BBC Concert Orchestra, performing at the Melbourne International Festival along side Barry Tuckwell and Wycliffe Gordon, winning the British Open Championships as a member of the Cory Band, appearing as a guest at the International Euphonium Institute USA, the list goes on'85'85. However, three of my proudest and memorable moments from 2007 are:

Last Night of the BBC Proms '96 Proms in the Park with the National Orchestra of Wales.

Playing to a huge audience in a prestigious festival with a professional orchestra broadcast live on television is bound to be a phenomenal feeling, but what made this concert particularly memorable for me was the special guest appearance of my father Robert who joined me on stage for a performance of Bizet'92s Pearl Fishers'92 Duet. It was a magical feeling to perform with him in this setting '96 something I'92ll never forget.

Recording Karl Jenkins'92 Benedictus under the composer'92s direction for his EMI CD release.

I have been a fan of Karl Jenkins for a long long time. I considered myself extremely fortunate to meet him some years ago and even more fortunate when he invited me and the Cory band to work with him on his latest recording project '91This Land of Ours'92. '91Benedictus'92 is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know and to play the solo line with Karl Jenkins conducting was a dream come true. The fact the album went straight into the top 10 of the Classic FM charts was an added bonus!

Becoming a Godfather to Carys Jane Turner.

On December 23rd 2007 my good friends Chris & Lynne Turner became parents for the first time. It took us all by surprise as Carys was 8 weeks premature! She is truly a miracle baby and I can'92t think of any prouder moment than when my wife Joanne and I were asked by Chris and Lynne to be Carys'92s Godparents. Together with the news my sister Lisa is to marry her long time boyfriend Olly (my running partner!) this unmusical occasion topped off a great year.

Here'92s to 2008!
