Recordings from Richard Marshall (cornet soloist), Steven Mead (euphonium soloist), Brett Baker (trombone soloist), James Gourlay & Les Neish (tuba soloists) all made it on to the short list, but it was David Childs who took this year'92s prestigious British Bandsman Solo CD of the Year award.

The panel of judges were impressed by all aspects of this latest release from the euphonium virtuoso. Former BBC producer Paul Hindmarsh told the BB'92s readership, '93In my view David Childs album was in a class of its own this year, for flair, imagination, range of repertoire and the cultured artistry of his performances.'94

Conductor Torgny Hanson was also firm in his opinion and commented, '93David Childs'92 Moto Perpetuo is a fantastic CD all the way through! The programme is high-class and a joy to listen to with the Karl Jenkins Euphonium Concerto as a peak. The playing by soloist and band is absolutely wonderful, but it'92s also worth mentioning the perfect balance and living presence in the recording production. This is my choice as the best solo CD of 2010.'94

BB'92s reporter delivered David the news he had won the award for 2010 whilst he was in the USA. From Washington David commented, '93I'92m delighted Moto Perpetuo has received this award and would like to thank everyone involved in the production of the disc, particularly my dad and friends at Cory for their support and superb playing. On a personal level, the high calibre of the other nominated soloists makes receiving this a real honour. I'92d also like to pay tribute to the talented composers featured on the disc, particularly Karl Jenkins. Many Thanks.'94
