David was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain for 6 years, attending 11 courses, of which 7 he was principal euphonium, a position both his father and uncle held before him. This Easter David returned as a tutor. Here's his blog entry:

"From Grand Rapids it was time for one of my most rewarding weeks of the year, tutoring the euphonium and baritone section of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, the band I joined on 2nd baritone at the age of 12. The NYBBGB is a phenomenal institution, one which many of the brass band and orchestral world’s finest brass players have passed through. At the moment the NYBBGB is blessed with a world class Artistic Director and Conductor in Bramwell Tovey.

My journey to Taunton, home for this year’s NYBBGB started at 4am following the NABBA Championships. From Grand Rapids I travelled via Chicago and London before arriving on campus very late on Sunday night ready to begin tutoring the following day. As always it was a pleasure to help, encourage and tutor some of the finest young euphonium and baritone players in Great Britain, and by the end of the week it was quite phenomenal to hear how the whole band had grown together under the expert baton of Bramwell Tovey.

With such youthful talent the course is so inspirational to be part of, but if extra inspiration were required it certainly presented itself in the form of guest trombone soloist Dudley Bright. He simply wowed the band and concert audiences with his performances. It was also a particular treat to have composer Peter Graham visit to give an insight to his music including Harrison’s Dream and one of his new works, Metropolis 1927, which received its premiere in the first of two concerts given by the NYBBGB to close their Easter 2014 course."
