Other nominees included the Vienna Philharmonic's former principal trumpet Hans Gansch, Sicily's superb Lito Fontana, BBC Young Musician of the Year prodigy Peter Moore, former BBC Radio Two Young Brass Soloist of the Year Stephen Sykes, current BBC Radio Two Young Brass Soloist of the Year Matthew White, & Black Dyke Band's star flugel-horn soloist Zoe Hancock.

"There was a feeling however, that all of these names were playing for 2nd place in this particular contest behind one of the finest and most ambassadorial brass soloists of modern times - David Childs."
