The XBY Concert Band & their Musical Director with David & Phillip Sparke

David joined the XBY Concert Band for two tracks contributing to a full CD of music by Phillip Sparke. The recording took place in London on April 22nd and was produced by the composer himself. David was brought in to perform two euphonium solos: '91Harlequin'92 - a piece composed for and dedicated to the soloist, and also '91Summer Isles'92 '96 a wonderful lyrical work originally featured in Sparke'92s highly successful suite, '91Hymns of the Highlands'92.

The name of the CD will be '91Harlequin'92 but in addition to the two solos mentioned, the disc will also feature a number of other brand new Sparke works performed by the talented XBY Concert Band. XBY was formed in 1989 and has established a reputation as one of the foremost symphonic wind bands in the United Kingdom. Its success has emerged through repeated achievements at the National Concert Band Festival Finals and the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Holland.

The CD is set for release later this year and will represent the first recordings of both '91Harlequin'92 and '91Summer Isles'92 in their new instrumentations for euphonium and Concert Band. David will be giving the first public performance of '91Harlequin'92 in this form on June 28th with the United States Air Force Academy Band at the Newman Center for Performing Arts in Denver Colorado.
