Camborne Youth with Alan Pope and special guest David Childs.

David has worked with the Camborne Youth Band and their conductor Alan Pope for the last three years. During that time the band have continued their unprecedented success at the Youth Brass Band Championships and next year will compete for their sixth consecutive victory.

Camborne Youth now have a thriving sister band in the form of the Junior Camborne Band (JCB) affectionately known as the '91Diggers'92! A huge amount of work from parents, music staff and not least Alan Pope go into running this great Youth organisation making it possible for their youngsters to have the opportunity to learn from high profile visiting musicians like David.

David commented, '93I get a real buzz from helping young musicians on the road to achieving their potential and my work with the Camborne Youth players is some of the most rewarding I do. They have a great educator in Alan Pope and to be part of an artistic team which also includes the Brighouse & Rastrick Band'92s MD Alan Morrison is a pleasure.'94

Later this year Camborne Youth will be making a new CD recording. David worked with them recently rehearsing potential new repertoire for the disc which they performed in an informal concert at Cornwall College Camborne.

David commented, '93The concert at the college was great fun. It gave the players a chance to play music they hadn'92t played before and provided a memorable evening for all involved.'94

David will be working with Camborne Youth once again when he visits Cornwall later this year in November.
